Welcome to Style Souk!

Souki Souki Now!

A souk is market place, a meeting place, where people gather to shop and exchange ideas and goods. Almost every country has a souk, and in my opinion, it is the best locale to experience the soul of the place. In the souk you will find spices, jewelry, foods, leather, herbs, medicines, carpets, oils, clothing and just about anything you can imagine.

This blog is a style souk, or a meeting place, where I will share my favorite fashion finds with you. I love fashion and I am always inspired by designs from runway shows and trends from glossy magazines, but, how do you translate these high end looks into wearable staples for real-life divas? I will show you how to incorporate both hot trends and timeless looks into your wardrobe with ease!

My Furry Little Friend! The Fur Vest

Whether short or long, faux or genuine, fur vests are popping up all over fall runways! Fur vests are warm, cozy, luxurious, and rich looking when paired with the right pieces. These vests can go from casual chic day looks to hot evening outfits. Fur in neutral colors such as jet black, chocolate brown, tan and even cream are a great basic layering pieces.

Here are some ideas that you can use with your own wardrobe!

This black fur vest is layered over a long sleeved floral jumper with black opaque tights and lace-up booties. Add a great statement necklace and sun glasses and you are off to lunch with girlfriends!

Here is another example of how to wear a fur vest over a dress for a flirty look. Knee high stockings give it a downtown funky feel.

This is another casual option from stylist and designer Rachel Zoe. Pair your fur vest with a blouse, tunic or thin knit sweater and skinny (or flared) jeans or leggings and you are runway ready.

Now that we have our casual looks nailed down, feast your eyes upon this beautifully detailed sable vest by New York based designer Farah Angsana. It is chinchilla, fox, Barguzin sable from the Russian wild (once reserved only for Czars), Swakara (a luxurious fur similar to broadtail), silk and cashmere. Shimmering crystal beads adorn this beautiful work of art.

This luxe, expensive vest still has an earthy, worldly quality. It almost looks ancient, like it could have been plucked from a museum or better yet, from the pages of history books. I can imagine a Russian princess donning this piece. Or better yet, I can imagine myself wearing it!

How do you make an investment piece like this wearable? I would pair it with buttery soft skinny black leather pants and ankle boots or even leather shorts with opaque tights. For a current look, I could also see it with a long knitted sweater dress. It could also go high fashion with a gold silk slip dress underneath belted with a rustic leather belt. Mixing the rustic with precious, more glamorous pieces is another fall trend. Just one investment piece like this vest can be worn in many different ways and will never go out of style!

I appreciate your incorporation of an investment in at least one high end fashion piece that can be worn in so many different ways. Simply splendid.
